    The Foundation was founded with a goal to promote research in India and abroad in various domains of "BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING", encompassing Biotechnology, Biomechanical, Biomedical imaging, Biomaterial, Bioelectrical and Electronics etc., for the development of public health, medicine and allied areas.

About Dr.R.Saravanan

The Founder & Chairman.

The Chairman

            Dr.R.Saravanan completed his Ph.D. (1997) in Medical Microbiology from Dr. A.L.M. PG. I.B.M.S., UNIVERSITY OF MADRAS, Taramani, Chennai.  With UGC-JRF & GATE’93 (NET fellowship) he did his research programs.

AWARDS:   

1.           National Award:  For the first report of Leptospira javanica disease in India he received IABMS (1997): THANGAM VASUDHEVAN MEMORIAL AWARD organized by Defense Institute of Physiology and Allied Sciences (DIPAS), NEW DELHI. The research article was published in the Transactions of Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, UK.

2.          National Award:  For the outstanding research achievements he has been awarded with ‘Jewel of India Award’ by International Institute of Education and Management, (IIEM) Delhi.

3.           National Award:  For the outstanding achievements he has been awarded with ‘LIFE TIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD’ by International Business Council (IBC), New Delhi.

He had Headed,  Microbiology and Biotechnology departments of a few colleges in India.    In  2001,  he Founded the “Biomedical Engineering Research Foundation” affiliated to Periyar University, at the foot hills of Yercaud, Salem – 636 004.

 His current positions:

               of   Tamilnadu, India.

  •            Member - Board of Research Studies Periyar University,  Tamilnadu,
               India.

  •            Joint Secretary for the Indian Association of Applied Microbiologists (IAAM)

  •            Reviewer and Referee for  the Indian Journal of Medical  Research from the
                  
    Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) New Delhi.  

  •            Indian domain expert for Leptospira studies for Indiana  University,
               Indiana, USA. 

  •            Co-Worker of PATH (Bill Gates and Melinda Gates’   Program for
               Appropriate Technology In Health), 
    Seattle, USA.

  •            Co-Worker of WHO / FAO Collaborating center for  reference and research
               on Leptospirosis,
    Amsterdam,  The Netherlands and similar such
               organization at
    Brisbane, Australia.  
    He has published his research
               articles in various
     International and National journals and he has  presented
               his research articles in many
    National and International  conferences.

About Mrs. E. Rani, M. Sc. (Med. Micro),

The Secretary

* She has completed her Medical Microbiology Post Graduate Degree (faculty of Medicine) from     Dr. A.L.M. PG. IBMS, University of Madras, Taramani Campus, Chennai, India.

* She is at the eve of completing her Doctor or Philosophy research in BIOTECHNOLOGY from the  Siddha Medicine Department of Tamil University, Tanjore, India.

* She served as Head of the department of Microbiology in a couple of Paramedical colleges and Arts & Science Colleges. 

* Her Research on Hepatitis B virus was highly commented in a National Conference of Indian Association of Biomedical Scientists.

* She has guided many Post Graduate research programs and made many national and international publications.

Faculty Members

* The faculty members of our College are Post Graduate with research experience in various branches of Life Science who are cross trained with Computer science too to handle biotech tools and techniques efficiently.  They are fully dedicated to their service and extend their fullest cooperation for the trust in helping the poor Indian youths to go for high positions in biotechnology.

 

Ms. Isabelle from France

                            

 

Ms. Isabel is a dedicated scientist and visiting faculty from France.  Her research programs were in Belgium.  Her service in BMERF, as a faculty of our Biotech department is highly commendable.  Her joint ventures in our virological projects especially on Avian Influenza and Chikun Guinea Viruses.

About the Institute

Knowing the importance of biotechnology in the recent industrial development and on global economy the BMER Foundation, SALEM started the college in 2001 and affiliated it with Periyar University (a State Government University).   Starting from Graduation and Diploma courses the college has the  specialized biotech post graduate  and research programs leading to M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees.

The Institute’s Awards & Activities:

 Awards:

 è     International Institute of Education and Management (IIEM), Delhi      awarded the Institute with ‘NATIONAL GOLD STAR AWARD’ in the year 2004.

 Activities:

è    The institute has got tie-up with Program for Appropriate Technology in Health (PATH) – Seattle, USA.

 è      Tie-up with WHO reference lab for leptospirosis, Brisbane – Australia & Amsterdam of the Netherlands.

 è      Locally for the immunologic studies the Institute has got tie up with Shanmuga hospital and research institute.

 è      Regularly conducting free blood grouping & Serology oriented camps for tribal populations at Yercaud Hills. The blood samples are currently being screened for HIV, HBV & HCV by ELISA technique.

 è      Currently HCV & HIV RNA isolation & amplification studies are being carried out with    RT-PCR for the tribal population in association with Dept. of Microbiology, Dr. ALM PG IBMS Taramani, Chennai.

 è      Many Government and Private colleges in Tamilnadu including Loyola College, Chennai have entered with MoU for the conduction of UGC sponsored vocational Biotech courses and internship programs with the help of BMERF.
